In studio photography you have to create the light. There are various lights and lighting positions that are specific for certain types of studio photography.

One of the main disadvantages to food photography is having hot lights and food. If a photographer is taking pictures of e.g. ice cream, having hot lights around is going to make the food melt, therefore resulting in the photographer either being quick at taking the photos, or not getting the images at all.
Lighting in food photography is important. Flash cards are used to gently fill in any shadows that may have been caused by window light. Using these cards brings more detail to your images and highlights the colours more. If you bring the focal point forward it helps to get the viewers attention to the food itself and not any other props that might be in the photo to 'dress' it. Food photography allows the photographer to take images from many angles. If taken from above, it gives a good effect of an overall meal, but if taken from the side (with certain foods) then you are able to see the height of the food. E.G. If their is a cake and it has many different layers, it might be a nice idea to get an image of the different coloured layers/inside the cake.
Fashion Photography:
Fashion photography can be completed in a studio but can also be done outside, although the photographer is less able to control the lighting when outdoors. Fashion photography should convey a sense of authority. The photographs should capture the clothes and so try to make the make up and hair reflect the clothes. Use a beauty dish in fashion photography, as this gives a type of light that is a soft harshness. The light enhances the make-up of the model but also highlights the flaws on the subjects skin. The light itself is round and so directs the light, but as it is made of a metallic plate it creates a slightly harsher light.
Car Photography:
Car photography requires a maximum amount of space and lights, to get a dramatic image. In the photo, there seems to be one massive soft box, which is probably filled with several lights. The studio itself needs to be large enough to hold the car and the equipment.
